Summer 2023 - Dr. David Penfield establishes the only recently active junior ILCA introductory and race class at the Hyannis Yacht Club. Sailors participate in HYC's Thursday and Sunday race series with the support of the Hyannis Yacht Club Foundation.
Summer 2025 - Henry Meiser is brought on to the ILCA scene at HYC, expanding participation in both the introductory class and race team, and increasing attendance at local regattas. Notably, two sailors from the HYC ILCA Race Team travel to Larchmont Junior Race Week in New York, bringing back top-20 finishes in a 50+ boat fleet.
Fall 2025 - Hyannis Yacht Club hosts its first-ever fall junior ILCA clinic based on interest from junior sailors in and out of the club. After identifying a gap between ILCA racing and junior sailing in the region, local sailors and leaders in the sailing industry found the Massachusetts Junior ILCA Sailing Association. Planning for the summer 2026 season begins.
With 7 years of experience teaching junior sailing on the east coast, Henry Meiser serves as the first executive director of MJISA. Outside of MJISA, he is also the Head ILCA Coach at the Hyannis Yacht Club in Cape Cod, and is a rising junior at the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, MA. A junior ILCA sailor himself in the Chesapeake Bay JYRA, Henry is looking forward to expanding ILCA racing in Massachusetts!
Are you a (current or former) program director, sailing instructor, parent, or junior sailor who is looking to help shape the direction of MJISA in its inaugural year? We are looking for individuals to join the MJISA Board of Advisors as we set out to plan for our first summer of racing in 2026. Please e-mail Henry at henry@mjisa.org to express your interest!
